Company Biography

Gillespie Moody Patterson, Inc. (GMP) is an award-winning landscape architecture firm based in Carlsbad, California. For nearly 50 years, we have partnered with public and private sector clients to create innovative, sustainable design solutions across a diverse range of development projects—from master-planned communities to municipal landscapes and specialized irrigation systems.

Our Legacy

Founded in 1976 by Dennis Gillespie, GMP has grown from a solo design practice into a respected, multi-disciplinary firm. In 2005, a strategic partnership between Dennis, Marc Moody, and John Patterson formalized the firm’s evolution and renamed it Gillespie Moody Patterson, Inc. This transition marked a turning point, setting the stage for decades of expansion and industry recognition. Following Dennis’ retirement in 2008, Marc and John assumed ownership and leadership, steering the company through significant growth and establishing GMP as a leading voice in sustainable landscape architecture.

In 2002, Rob Streza joined GMP and eventually worked his way up to become a Partner and Principal with the firm, bringing fresh perspective and expertise that strengthened the firm’s capabilities and vision for the future. Most recently, Marc Moody retired in January 2026, concluding a remarkable chapter of mentorship and design excellence that profoundly shaped GMP’s culture and reputation.
